Siickbrain
Walking into a music venue where the stage is covered in a space that looks like a Dexter kill room was WILD, but I was completely here for the experience. I had pretty minimal knowledge of what the show would be like. I had been avoiding any spoilers for it so I could go into the show with a blank slate, and I’m SO glad that I did because my jaw was dropped from start to finish.
Siiickbrain coming out onstage in the absolute (sorry mom, there’s really no other way to describe it) c*ntiest outfit I’ve ever seen on a performer, and an additional model waving a flag was incredible, and she put on an incredible performance. With striking red lights the entire set and the bass sending shocks straight into my bones, I was just enjoying watching the audience lose their minds while she danced, sang, and just straight up PERFORMED. I’m also now completely obsessed with her, and more specifically her song “Dopamine”, even though every song in the entire set was perfect.
Royal & The Serpent
I found and fell in love with Royal & The Serpent through her collaborations with other artists (shout-out to Stand Atlantic, Demi Lovato and Slushpuppy) and have adored her versatility and just overall incredible artistic talent and vision since.
Like I mentioned, I went into this show fairly blind, so I wasn’t sure what would be played, and I was blown away to learn she was playing her newest album, “Emptiness is Godly,” all the way through in order, telling such a beautiful story. She was completely alone on stage, confined to the small room she built on the stage, and with just a few screens behind her and an occasional helping hand from another tech who would appear on stage, Royal managed to take the audience through so much more than just a concert. It felt like a whole experience.
I think after seeing the album live performed in this way, Shampoo is now my favorite song from her entire discography. The performance was beautiful and heartbreaking, and her performing an entirely one-woman show with such a long set was just stunning.
