Saves The Day
If you're looking to spice up your selection of emo rock, Saves the Day is a great place to start. They have a raw sound that is reminiscent of many other bands without sounding like a ripoff, probably because they did it first. Founded in 1997 they are completely unique with honest and vulnerable lyrics, but with an energy that will keep you on your toes. They started our night off great and kept us moving in the cold weather. I hadn't actually listened much to them before this show but every single song was so engaging to listen to, they are an immediate addition to my playlist now.
Thrice
Are they post punk/post rock? Are they 80s inspired 90s style grunge? Are they hardcore The World is a Beautiful Place? I really can't say. A true enigma that you just cannot stop listening to, Thrice is a HUGE player from Irvine, California, they have been around literally as long as I have been alive. They have a dedicated fan base and a massive catalogue of 15 albums, an absolute powerhouse of vocal prowess backed by incredible musicianship. I could not pull myself away during their set. The music and the stage presence draw you in and the fans keep you moving with them, even if you don't even know the song. A community and a mood wrapped up in one band, you just can't go wrong.
Taking Back Sunday
Wow, 20 years of Louder Now just doesn't feel real. And if you haven't listened to Taking Back Sunday, go do that now and come back, I’ll wait……welcome back, how do you feel?
TBS is the sound of a generation, or many at this point. They have been nonstop writing and releasing since they began their musical career so there's really something for everyone out there. Words cannot even begin to describe how instrumental this band was in my formative years and how incredible it was to see them live at a venue like Red Rocks. The show they put on was amazing, the band was moving and dancing like it wasn't freezing temperatures outside. Adam Lazaro (singer) put his whole being into every note and every lyric performed, feeling it with the same intensity as the crowd. Singing some of my favorite songs from my teenage years with thousands of other people is an experience I can never forget or replicate, even if I couldn't feel my fingers by the end of the night.
