Leanna Firestone @ Meow Wolf

Leanna Firestone x Abby Cates

Abby Cates

The second that Abby Cates started singing, I was absolutely captivated. Her voice is so ethereal; there were moments I literally forgot to take photos because I was just so tied into what she was playing. There were so many moments that I just stopped and took in all of the sounds, the emotions, and the space we were all standing in together.

In addition to having songs that absolutely gutted me like “Roadtripsong”, her little anecdotes in between each of the songs about their meanings and her authentic, quirky energy really brought such an intimate feeling into the already otherworldly space that is Meow Wolf’s Perplexiplex. Starting the show with someone just standing alone in the middle of the blue-toned space set this beautiful feeling of melancholy that settled warm in my chest for the rest of the night.

Leanna Firestone

I’m sure I wouldn’t be alone in saying that I found Leanna Firestone through TikTok shortly after the post-pandemic period. The worst (best??) part is I was going through a breakup at the time, so “You Just Didn’t Like Me That Much” went triple platinum in my car.

Her energy was so incredible; after being warmed up by such a soft opener, she brought out a lovely little ray of pop hooks and rhythmic guitars that were accompanied by the very packed crowd screaming along to every single word to every single one of her songs. I think one of the most incredible apsects of Leanna Firestone’s music is how her wording is so specific and unique, and yet it resonates so well with so many people. What a beautiful representation of how even the hardest, most unique experiences we all have can still be shared with others.
