Julia Wolf x Bee Blackwell

Bee Blackwell
Though Indiana’s weather did not get the memo that it’s supposed to be fall twilight season, Indianapolis did not disappoint for Julia Wolf’s first time in Indianapolis packing the outdoor Hi-Fi Annex with a sold out crowd on a Tuesday night despite the very unfitting 80 degree temperature in the middle of October. As the sun began its descent, Bee Blackwell’s mesmerizing alt rock roared to life to kick off the night. Bee Blackwell delivered the perfect opening set that meshed so well against Julia Wolf’s music. The energy continued to build as every song came to pass until they concluded their set and left fans anxiously awaiting what was to come.
Julia Wolf
Julia Wolf took the stage like a storm, with thunder rumbling through the sound system and flickering lights mimicking lightning that then burst into her song “Wishbone” as she took the stage greeted by a choir of excited screams. Julia Wolf is for the girls, and the girls did not disappoint, even earning their own special shoutout before “Girls” near the end of the set. They showed up full force in their best low rise early 2000’s fits that brought to life the exact image that Julia Wolf’s music creates. Meme’s aside, Julia Wolf is Twilight, Tumblr, and grunge brought to life in the best modern way. Her stage design included what could be interpreted as black flames, a forest, or a combo of both taking up the back of the stage along with pieces of a bedroom, all dark and moody. While her hit song “In My Room” really brought her into the limelight, Julia Wolf’s discography is packed with hit after hit that she performed live such as “Jennifer’s Body, Pearl, Fingernails” and more even including newer songs like “Lamb” and the tour’s namesake, “Deep End.” Even more astonishing is that she told the crowd she is fully independent, with no label backing her. Her gratitude was worn on her face and in her crowd banter the whole time.
Blending alternative punk instrumentals with unique, immaculate clean vocals alongside the perfect set design; Julia Wolf delivered an otherworldly live show that takes you out of reality and into a connected hour long experience. Throughout the entire venue the purest moments took place amongst friends old and new as they sang their hearts out, held each other, and left it all at the Annex. A smile was worn loud and proud across Julia Wolf’s face as she made sure to point out that she should’ve visited Indianapolis much sooner, but now knows that she will always have to come back as the crowd’s energy left its mark on everyone within the Annex’s walls.
