Nectar Woode was an artist I hadn't heard of before going to this concert. She was insanely talented, and even though it wasn’t particularly a favorite genre of mine, I couldn't help but be captivated by her presence and beauty in her songs. She is a British singer-songwriter of neo-soul music, blending jazz and folk together. Best known for her 2023 single ‘Good Vibrations’. She put on a great performance opening for Bastille, really shining in the light before it got dark for Bastille to come on. It was giving festival energy in the open-air venue.

Bastille hit the ground running at the historic venue that is Halifax’s Piece Hall, bringing their signature energy to one of the UK’s most unique outdoor music venues. This was my first time visiting this venue, and I was in awe at how beautiful it was. The Piece Hall is the only remaining Georgian cloth hall in the world, which provides a striking backdrop to the concert with the historical architecture surrounding the crowd; no matter where you were in the venue, it was beautiful.
From the very beginning, the band had the audience in the palm of their hands as they maintained a high level of energy throughout the set. Frontman Dan Smith was running up and down the stage, keeping the atmosphere so lively throughout the songs. The audience was loud and responsive, creating an electric atmosphere that made you want to dance and join in. Fortunately, unlike the previous few days, the weather stayed on our side, with no rain making an appearance during the set, allowing the crowd to fully enjoy the open-air venue.
Bastille then wisely saved their biggest hit, ‘Pompeii ’, till the very end, a song that is instantly recognisable even to those who are not fans of the band. It brought the night to its peak as the entire crowd joined in, turning the Piece Hall into a loud singalong. Ending on such a well-known and beloved track ensured the energy remained high right ‘til the end, leaving everyone happy when the concert finished, and they could go home really invested in the band. Bastille's combination of loud energy and recognisable hits made for a memorable night at one of the prettiest venues I have ever encountered.
