After a short break, Savings is back and better than ever with “Stressed Out"

After nearly two years of silence, Albuquerque alternative/pop-rock outfit Savings returns with their newest single and music video, "Stressed Out," which arrived July 23, 2026 via Graveboy Records. The release is more than a reintroduction – it serves as a catalyst for a complete artistic reinvention, introducing the next chapter of a band fundamentally pivoting their art and reclaiming ownership of their creativity.

I had the pleasure of catching them at Long Beach’s Warped Tour, where they rocked the Camp Emo Nite stage and made me absolutely psyched to sit down with them (virtually) to chat about their newest single, their upcoming shows, Cookie Monster ice cream, and whether or not you should untuck the blankets on hotel beds.

Hey, guys! Thanks so much for talking with me today!

Nick: Oh yeah, thanks for having us!

Robby: I want to just start this out by explaining why my mouth is bright blue because I feel like it’s going to come up. I just slammed a Cookie Monster ice cream sandwich in this parking lot. And now all of you are laughing, but I’m just saying this is the real me.

Hey, listen, I’m just glad we get the real, authentic version of you guys; this is what I want to see, blue teeth and all. Can I just say, also, congratulations on the newest single! How has the reception been for that?

Nick: It’s been nuts, to be honest with you. There was a small period of time where we weren’t doing anything besides living normal lives. I definitely had the thought multiple times where I was like, man, do people really care about us anymore? So it's cool to see that our fan base is, like, still riding for us, and now more people are finding out about us, which is even cooler.

What made you guys realize that this song needed to be out there?

Nick: You know, me and Sam were kind of just living our normal lives. And we sat down one day, and we were like, let’s just see if we can write something again. So we started writing, and this is the song that just came out. We just talked about what we were going through at the time, and then we sat down with our friend Kai, who co-produced this, and just tracked everything down.

Sam: Yeah, without being pompous at all, I feel like a lot of people were like, "Hey, where the hell is Savings?” We hadn’t done anything really in about a year and a half, and we just decided to write about stepping away and everything that came out of that. We didn’t want to put anything out until we felt we had something to say, and then that made us unintentionally write this.

Do you feel like the time and space you took helped you figure out what direction to go in?

Sam: I think it was necessary to be honest with you. I think that things moved pretty quickly for us, and we didn’t really know what to do with it. So we just kept doing the same thing for a long time, and then inevitably we got to a place of burnout. So I do think it was key that we did that and took a step back or else the band might not even exist at all today, to be honest with you.

So your cover art for this song is in greyscale. If this song COULD be any color, what color would it be?

Nick: It would probably be like a navy blue or dark blue. I think when I'm in that headspace of feeling overwhelmed, I do feel like sometimes, without being cheesy, you feel kind of blue, right?

Sam: I can't really think of a color; I think of car lights just passing you by, if that makes any sense? Like late-night, spaced-out car lights driving by.

“We want to cultivate a community where they can come and feel like they get a break from reality and just be themselves. ”

Whenever you’re on the road, do you learn new things about each other?

Sam: Well, to preface, I’ve known Nick for about seven years now, and I’ve known Robby since I was 17 years old. And then we’ve all known Grey for about four years now. So anything that’s big, we definitely already know about each other. But yeah, anything small, like how Robby doesn’t like sitting in the back because he gets carsick or how much space everyone needs, is what we’ve picked up.

Nick: Yeah, and how to push each other’s buttons to make each other laugh.

Robby: I don’t know what you mean; I don’t have any quirks. I DO know that Sam hates the way I take the sheets off of the hotel beds, though.

Hold on, back up. Why are you taking the sheets off?

Robby: Because I like the blanket underneath my feet. And the hotel people, they always tuck the sheets into the mattress. I prefer to do it when I’m going to bed, but as soon as we check into the hotel, I'll pull it out right away because I know it'll drive Sam crazy.

Sam: Immediately, he, like, gets under the blankets and just yanks it up, and I get so mad. I get it though, you gotta have your dogs sticking out.

Nick: Yeah the dogs, bro.

Let’s say we put all of your discography in a cage match fight. Which song is walking out victorious?

Robby: I'd like to say whoever's walking out is the one that we recently released at any given time because we're always evolving. Like, if you listen to all of our songs chronologically, you can tell that we're growing up, we're maturing, we're evolving with how we're writing, so whoever wins is whichever one was most recently released.

Sam: Well, we just put this out, so “Stressed Out”.

Nick: “Stressed Out” would be down and then just miraculously get back up again and beat the crap out of you.

Robby:I Found A Date For The Holidays” wouldn’t even be in the cage; it would just be watching on the sidelines like a freak.

If you had to describe your sound as a band in three words without using genres, what would you say?

Nick: Robby, I feel like you’re cooking up something over there. What do you want to say?

Sam: He’s like 1. Cookie 2. Monster 3. Ice Cream

Robby: Yeah, no, definitely come to me last.

Sam: I’ve gotta say, energetic, emotive, fun

Nick: Ohh, honest! And relatable.

Robby: So we had an interview a while back, like over a year ago, and they asked if we could describe Savings in one word; what would it be? I didn’t say it then, but I immediately thought “itchy”

Itchy?

Robby: There’s no correlation at all to this; I just had to say it.

Yeah, you know what? Erase everything else; we’re going with itchy now.

Bonding over a song with a random stranger and yelling the lyrics at each other; being present in that moment.”

What’s something fans could take away from watching you live?

Nick: I think in general, just... Seeing us as normal people, our authentic selves. Like the banter that we have with each other and just the kind of friendship that we have. We mostly care that people come and watch us and they're like, oh, these guys are just really having a good time.

Sam: Some of my favorite things about going to shows is like, making friends with people that I don’t know at the show. Bonding over a song with a random stranger and yelling the lyrics at each other and, like, being present in that moment- those are just super special moments to me, and I hope that others feel the same way at our shows.

Speaking of making friends and a community, can you tell me what community means to you?

Sam: We’re really lucky to be surrounded by so many cool bands and good friends like Relate, Troubled Minds, Thursday Marks Fall, All Hype- so many good bands that we’re surrounded by. And I think that community in that aspect is just all of us doing cool shit, and everyone is just supporting one another. And it never comes from a place of envy; it just comes from a place of everyone being proud of each other.

Nick: Our community always just supports each other. When one band is doing well, everyone else is just happy for them, and it always goes both ways. This music community has seen me through some of my darkest moments, and being in an environment where people genuinely care about your well-being and just want everyone to move forward and not be pushed down, and just doing what you can when you see somebody that's obviously dealing with something. And in terms of the fans, we want to cultivate that community where they can come and feel like they get a break from reality and just, like, be themselves. Enjoy the music for what it is, or even if they just come and talk and hang out with us after the show and they feel welcomed, I think that would be huge.

Robby: I think the fact that everyone who plays shows with each other considers each other friends just speaks volumes to how the scene is. And that’s something that I see not just in our scene but everywhere in the awesome music community. Like everyone wants you to succeed, but they like you as people first.

Final thing: if you could leave anyone reading this with something, what would you say?

Sam: Thanks for being here, and thanks for supporting us and welcoming us back. The support does not go unnoticed at all, and it means so much. If you’ve been here for two weeks or five years, it just means the world that you’re here.

Nick: We all go through stuff in our lives that’s hard to deal with, so we just hope that maybe “Stressed Out” gives you some hope that you’re not alone in that and that we can try and continue to support you through it.

Robby: Thank you for being here, and hopefully we’ll see you at one of our shows coming up! Also, please please please please please stream “Stressed Out”; we're very happy with it.
