Spacey Jane really lives up to their name, with mellow melodies and chill vibes; they're perfect if you're in the mood to just hang out and cruise along. They bring the same energy to their live show, creating an atmosphere of swaying and singing along to songs like “Booster Seat” (their #1 song, and set closer) or “Do You Really Love Her”. Even in a venue as big as Fiddler’s Green, you feel like you're right up there with them.

If you've been on social media in the last few years, chances are you know at least one Rainbow Kitten Surprise song. Both “Cocaine Jesus” (fabulous name, I know) and “It’s Called: Freefall” went pretty viral in the trends of the past few years, and yet, a ton of people still don't know about the beauty of RKS. Their songs are lyrical masterpieces, backed by ear-catching instrumentals, but the drawing point is Ela’s voice. Nothing, however, could have prepared me for their stunning live performance: the stage presence she has, the power of the music live, the HARMONIES!!! Strutting around the stage, Ela puts on a full performance more than just singing her parts. It truly made me fall in love with the music all over again.
When I was waiting to get into the photo pit, I got to chatting with the ADA section. As security offered water to them, they called around to the surrounding GA pit and made sure everyone who needed water got some, and offered electrolyte packets around as well. It was heartwarming to see a crowd take such good care of one another, especially since it was 9 pm and 85 degrees out.
As I looked down the barricade, I could see pride flags dangling from hands; being a queer woman myself, I understand the pull this band has for the LGBTQ+ community. The singer, Ela, came out as transgender in 2022, and the band lost quite a few fans, but gained plenty more. In the years since, many people have worried her transition would change her iconic voice, or the band's sound, but what it's really done has allowed the music to become so much more raw and emotional. As a previous casual fan, there were plenty of songs I didn’t know, and every single one still made me FEEL it; the heartbreak, the love, the anger. RKS is more than just music. It’s poetry. A safe space for people to be who they are and be able to care for others as they are; it was truly a privilege.
