LOLO @ Bluebird Theater
LOLO x Caroline Romero x Dawson Gamble
09.27.26
Dawson Gamble
A surprise second opener? Yes please! Especially one that sounds like Dawson Gamble. Meet your new favorite indie pop-rock group. Hailing from Toronto, Ontario, and formed in 2020, they are rising fast. They perform like they're throwing a party, and are so good at making it feel like one, I nearly forgot I had a job to do! Every person in the room was dancing like this was their favorite band, and I believe for some of them, it’s about to be. For music that has only come out in the last 6 years , I somehow felt nostalgic, like living in a 90s music video. With heavier guitar tones and a driving feeling behind the music, you can miss how gorgeous Dawson's voice can actually be, but you're clearly reminded when he features with LOLO on her rendition of “Hey There Delilah” during her set.
Caroline Romero
If you're a fan of Olivia Rodrigo or Gracie Abrams, you're gonna LOVE Caroline Romano. This Mississippi girl knows how to throw a little bit of hope, a little bit of heartbreak, and a lot of self-deprecation into her music. You wouldn't know that just by watching her, though; she commands a stage like a pro and has the live vocals to back it up, all while dancing her heart out. Hyping the crowd while singing sad lyrics is a special talent, but I think sometimes we all feel like a “girl in a china shop,” so we can relate and belt right along with her. Closing her set with that, her biggest, and likely most relatable song left me wanting more at the end, but lucky for me (and no doubt the rest of the crowd), she came out with LOLO to feature on “Delusional Darling”.
LOLO
Do you have an ex you regret? Same! So does LOLO, or maybe a few…. But that's what brings us all here, right? Singing songs about people we should forget, or not text back, or maybe we just need to scream about it together.
LOLO does more than sing; she puts on a whole performance, with prerecorded interludes of her “writing” in her journal, and throwing out red pompoms to transform the crowd into her personal cheer squad; we all become a part of the show. I have rarely seen someone move on stage as much as LOLO does; she is a powerhouse of stamina and incredible vocal control, dancing and jumping around like there's nowhere else she'd rather be, and honestly, me either. The songs are catchy, and LOLO is a sight to behold, but my favorite part is her interactions with the crowd and that she features both of her openers in her set. Truly one of the most fun concerts I've been to this year.
